General Hammond summons Colonel Jack O'Neill out of retirement to embark on a secret rescue mission. O'Neill confesses that he disobeyed orders to destroy the Stargate on Planet Abydos, and that scientist Daniel Jackson may still be alive. Arriving on Abydos with his team, O'Neill meets up once again with the scientist, who has discovered a giant elaborate cartouche in hieroglyphics. All signs point to the fact that this is a map of many Stargates that exist throughout the galaxy - a development that makes the dream of the SG-1 team to travel throughout the universe in time a reality.
A secret military team, SG-1, is formed to explore other planets through the recently discovered Stargates.
I admit that it took me a few episodes to get into it. I started watching it with my mom about half way through the 1st season. She kept trying to get me to watch it and me being stubborn refused. So one day she&#39;s watching it and I end up watching it with her and realize, &quot;this is pretty good&quot;! So we started from the beginning. Luckily she had taped the first few episodes. I watched and I looked forward to it every week and hated to miss it, but then my like of the show grew. I saw the character interaction and development, and throughly enjoyed not only the plot lines but then characters themselves. The episodes are laced with humor without becoming ridiculous. The plot never gets so complicated that I have no idea whats happening but it is complicated enough where I&#39;m not bored with it but intrigued. I have all the DVD&#39;s and love to re-watch them. Here in the US on Scifi and syndication, Stargate is on 16 hours a week. Even if I&#39;ve seen the episode ten times before, its nice to put it on when I&#39;m working on homework, cleaning, etc. I do admit that its not perfect, but what series is. There have been a few episodes that have left me wanting, but very few. And even those are better than a lot of shows I&#39;ve seen. The movie was good but lacked any humor. The series takes the brilliant idea of the movie and embellishes it with great actors and plots. <br/><br/>The last thing I have to say is: Don&#39;t give up after one or two episodes. Give it a chance. Get to know and love the characters, and you will love the show as I do. And I&#39;m only 14. I started watching it at 6 years old. Also, check out Stargate:Atlantis. It rocks too!!
I think for most commentary about Cornell Oneil is just blah, blah, blah. We need that character sarcastic whatever. He makes me happy just as simple as that. Just like the character on Lost in space Dr smith, Now that men jump in that spaceship with no invite and aggravate the hole crew lol. I truly worship that show just like I worship this show. I hope they do like Star wars make a movie of it. No matter if they are Old. Make the come back. And give them Gould a hard time to win.The same go for star gate Atlantis, Make a movie HD and 3D that gate water will Hit you on the face lol. S T A R<br/><br/>G A T E<br/><br/>S G 1

For the sake of the entertainment, it is best for the viewers to ignore this issue as well and enjoy the stories that exist, even if it can be a mental challenge, especially in the episodes that feature fellow Earthlings, the Russians, speaking a different language or, at best, showing a heavy accent.<br/><br/>It is unfortunate that the writers didn&#39;t utilize any of the standard solutions to the language problem, such as portable universal translators (used successfully in all Star Trek series) or devices that imprint linguistic knowledge directly into the brain (those aren&#39;t the only solutions, of course). Teal&#39;c could&#39;ve easily supplied SG-1 with such technology right in the first episode. This could even have explained perfectly why Teal&#39;c, Vala, and some others speak English on such a formal level (don&#39;t understand slang in particular), Teal&#39;c not being aware of his frequent usage of the word &quot;indeed&quot;, and so on. All this is fitting for a programmed knowledge.
